Artist's Description
At 9,862 feet in elevation, Cerro Pedernal can be seen from many points around Northern New Mexico. Pedernal means "flint" in Spanish and has been a great source for agate for a long time. Native Americans during the Pueblo Period used the stone to fashion knives, scrappers, arrowheads and spear points. The butte is a well know landmark on the north side of the Jemez mountains in the Abiquiu area. It gained further notoriety when Geogia O'Keefe displayed it in many of her paintings. The four mile hike to the top is a popular adventure for a 360 degree view.
About Britt Runyon
I am a New Mexico based Adventure Riding/Rafting/SCUBA Outdoor Digital Photographer, always on the qui vive for what Nature and humans provide. Capturing an image in my camera is but the first step in an artistic process. That initial bit of information then can pass through countless permutations before being declared complete. The journey from capture to completion is a lawless territory.
