Aster means "star". In New Mexico this springtime flower blooms and brightens our local flora. Aster is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. There are roughly 180 species within the genus. As for the bee, it's one of several varieties that can be found in New Mexico. I believe this to be a Cactus Bee (diadasia). There are 5 varieties of Cactus Bee found in the southwest. These are solitary bees that typically nest in hard packed dirt. They are commonly seen in May - June when cactus are in bloom.
I am a New Mexico based Adventure Riding/Rafting/SCUBA Outdoor Digital Photographer, always on the qui vive for what Nature and humans provide. Capturing an image in my camera is but the first step in an artistic process. That initial bit of information then can pass through countless permutations before being declared complete. The journey from capture to completion is a lawless territory. If photography is an art, then there are no rules.
