Description
Hiking the great outdoors, Mother Nature provides us with endless opportunities of visual sensations. On this particular outing I was amazed by the multi-colored layering of the sediments along the fringes of a very large arroyo in the Desert Southwest. In geology this stratum results from the erosion of rock from higher elevations and is placed in multicolored bands of fine grained soil. Individual bands vary in thickness, from a few millimeters to several hundred feet or more. Each layer represents a specific mode of deposition, as evident by the various colors, grain size and angle or tilt.
